2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Review – Porsche hasn’t even released its new GT3 based on the 992 generation 911, but the hardcore GT3 RS variant is already out of testing. A prototype has been spotted at the Nürburgring and some of the roads around the German race track, and this gives us several clues about the new star of the track.

Compared to the GT3 prototypes, the GT3 RS sports tester has additional openings on the hood and front wings, a more aggressive front splitter, new side skirts and a solid, two-element rear wing. Interestingly, Wheels recently reported that “swan neck” rear wing pillars, such as those fitted to a prototype designed to increase strength, could make production. A similar, though tamer design is also expected for the GT3.

The GT3 RS prototype also wears Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with dimensions of 265 / 35R20 at the front and 325 / 30R21 at the rear. Huge carbon-ceramic brake rotors can also be seen centered on the locked wheels.

Engineers have also tried to hide the car’s side intakes, which is a typical feature of the GT3 RS, but not the GT3.

Power is likely to range from a 4.0-liter flat-6-pair standard to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The maximum power of the previous GT3 RS was 520 horsepower and 346 pounds of torque from the same type of engine, and we can expect a slight increase for the new generation.

While the GT3 is closely related to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, the GT3 RS is picked by the more extreme 911 GT3 R racer. Porsche has also noticed in testing the new GT3 R, based on the 992 generation 911, the development of the racing car is probably closely linked to this new GT3 RS. Recall that the Porsche GT3 and GT3 RS are built next to their motorsport brothers and sisters.

We expect the new GT3 RS to debut in 2022 as the 2023 model. The associated GT3 R race car is also expected in 2022. The new GT3 is scheduled to debut in early 2023. Also in the works is the new GT3 Touring.

If turbochargers, hybrid systems, electric cars, self-propelled and downhill engines are what’s inside, then what does the new Porsche 911 GT3 do without any of these things? The answer is: It is the hearts of winning enthusiasts.

The 911 GT3 is a model that provides a direct link to the race. While the Carrera and Carrera S are turbochargers and of course the Turbo are turbochargers, the GT3 remains a high-cooling naturally aspirated engine. It is a car that a small group of engineers in Weissach has maintained with meticulous updates.

We met with GT3 chief engineer Andreas Preuninger to drive along the upcoming GT3 development prototype. The car we were driving wore a camouflage (as shown in some photos), but a few weeks after our trip, Porsche took off his cloaks and discovered the car. The design is aggressive and helps the GT3 differ from the everyday friendlier 911. Note that the rear wing is mounted at the top, as we have seen in McLaren Senna and many racing cars. Hanging the wing from above provides an aerodynamic advantage over the one mounted at the bottom with conventional pylons.

It is time to intervene. The seats are great, grip, microfiber, without a wig room, but also not too tight. The usual 911 stupid automatic switch is gone. It has been replaced by a gear selector that allows you to select gears, such as a real sequential gearbox: press down, pull up.

Porsche seems to have listened to GT3 customers who preferred console shifters to steering paddles. Although the Preuninger prefers a console derailleur, the GT3 also retains wheel oars. For real purists, the GT3 will still be available with a six-speed manual. Along with the short throw switch, the manual has a rev-match feature that can be turned on or off independently of any other mode, but it’s more fun to blip the throttle on the heel and toe downshifts without electronic assistance, right?

Digital instrument displays are also changing to GT3. In the regular position 992, the further dimensions are covered by the fat edge of the steering wheel. To make the information easier to read, GT3 is a GT setting that moves the most important information closer to the center-mounted tachometer.

Porsche is not ready to reveal all engine parts. We are sure that no current GT3 owner will be disappointed, but maybe they will be ruined. The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat six in the new GT3 builds on the 991 Speedster’s six individual throttle bodies, giving the engine a crisp, immediate and aggressive response to pedal commands. The power supply is powerful and beautifully smooth up to the arrogant 9000 rpm red line. We expect more than 500 horsepower, and the sound of the engine is jubilee and clear.

Its multi-link front suspension is derived from the RSR racing car. From the passenger seat, the new GT3 seems to be turning fast and body handling is exceptional. The brakes look like tracks ready. Iron brake rotors are standard, slightly larger ceramic brakes are optional. This generation is undermining dynamic engine mounts. Conventional mounts won and are lighter than electronically controlled. In terms of weight, the bonnet and bonnet are made of carbon fiber, while the rear windows – at least in Europe – have thinner glass.

In addition to the usual GT3, Porsche will once again offer the Touring model, inspired by the iconic 911 R, without a large wing, but with the same mechanical bits. This time around Porsche will allow Touring buyers to use the automatic transmission, the brand’s great PDK. Previously, the Touring only came with a six-speed guide. And we also expect a tighter core RS model.

The Preuninger team has produced a car that sets the latest trends. And at the same time, they have created the cleaner, more aggressive and captivating GT3. We cannot expect to lead it ourselves.

The Porsche 911 GT3 is a hardcore sports car designed to be at home on the race track. This long-established model is an alternative to the equally uncompromising McLaren 600LT and Mercedes AMG GT R Pro, and is now a new version.

Not a faulty Porsche 911 GT3 for any of the other 911 variants – it looks like a race car that made the wrong turn in Silverstone to find its way to the M1.

The basic design remains, but the front bumper has been completely redesigned to have a large air intake that extends across the car. There are also two large openings on the hood.

Nothing much has changed on the sides of the Porsche 911 GT3, but there is a huge wing at the rear for maximum impact – pushing the car to the ground and helping it grip the steering wheel. Just in case there was any doubt that it was a 911 GT3, the two ends of the exhaust are located in the center of the rear bumper – a hallmark of the model.

The front of the car comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels with slightly larger rear 21-inch wheels. All four have race-spec center locks instead of the usual wheel nuts.

Enthusiasts, rejoice – the new Porsche 911 GT3 does not have a turbocharger. It is still equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat six engine that is suitable for 510hp and 470Nm of torque. This is an increase of 10 for each figure compared to the outgoing car.

This engine also speeds up to 9000rpm, so you can guarantee that it will compete with a well-oiled orchestra at sound rates.

If you want to change your gears, a manual transmission is also available. This six-speed unit also has standard rev-matching technology, so you won’t have to have Mark Webber to get the most out of it, although the optional seven-speed PDK automation still does the job faster.

With this engine, the board Porsche 911 GT3 0-60mph will cover 3.2 seconds. It’s only half a slower than the all-wheel drive Turbo S, which is impressive considering that the GT3 has only rear-wheel drive. It also tops at 199mph. It’s definitely not a slouch, but excruciatingly close to 200mph, that’s a bit annoying …

But the 911 GT3 isn’t about how fast it will be in a straight line, it’s a car built to break lap times. It weighs only 1.418 kg in the manual cover (1.435 kg for the automatic), largely due to the large amount of lightweight carbon fiber body tilt, including the bonnet, bonnet and rear wing. You can pay a little extra for a roof that is also made of it.

All racist-looking bits do more than just look the part. Everything works to improve speed and keep the car more stuck on the road than a Scalextric car, and there is even a “Performance” mode for the rear wing and front splitter to improve it as well.

If you need to have your 911 GT3 even less than a car, however, there is an optional Clubsport package. It sees a roll cage stuffed at the back and six-point straps. Surprisingly for Porsche, this is also a free option.

2023 Porsche 911 Price and release date

There is no word yet on how much the Porsche 911 GT3 will cost, but expect it to be a hefty bonus for the entry-level 911 £ 82,795 entry price. That is likely to be well north of £ 100,000. Expect the first examples of the Porsche 911 GT3 to arrive later in 2023.
